PAVE Announces its Summer Partners for its
2009 Extended Learning Initiative
 
Now in its third year, PAVE's Learning Initiative aims to reduce the achievement gap in the city of Milwaukee by encouraging and supporting school leaders to offer expanded academic and enrichment programing to their students.
 
PAVE's Learning Initiative is only as successful as its school partners. In 2007, PAVE engaged with five schools serving 400 students across the city. In 2008, PAVE partnered with ten schools serving 1,000 students. These school partners provided academic-based summer programs that included enrichment opportunities inside and outside of the school building.
 
In 2009, PAVE will partner with 12 Choice and Charter schools across the city, which will serve an estimated 2,000 students in summer learning programs. These schools will focus on the core subjects of math, reading and science, and will include enrichment opportunities in the areas of physical recreation, the arts, environmental education, and health.
